The designer Cankeş Başak has an arts degree from the beaux arts school of Izmir. Bashaques is about incorporating art into fashion, so you might call the clothes «artwear».
One of the collections was inspired by the work of turkish photographer Murathan Özbek. Not only are some of the images rendered digitally on fabric, but they’re also woven into garments by an art weaver, mostly in leather and silk. The designer, Basak Cankes’s innate aptitude for pattern and illustration was discovered by her professors and further nurtured by her experiences gained as an intern with stylist Bora Aksu in England. She then started to focus on arty paintings and wearable art.
