"The Anatomy of a collection" is the new exhibition by Olivier Saillard at the Palais Galliera

22/04/2016

The Director if the Palais Galliera, Olivier Saillard, has started his carreer at the Musée de la Mode de Marseille, initiated by Maryline Bellieud-Vigouroux.

Under the title "The Anatomy of a collection", he selected and staged an exhibition of garments and accessories from the 18th century up to the present time.

Assisted by Beatrice Abonyi, he changes each garment's prime function by concentrating on the famous, or anonymous, personalities who wore them.

In 2014, Olivier Saillard presented a similar project in New York at the "Crossing The Line" Festival, by choosing 7 ex-models to speak on behalf of a garment.

From 14 May to 23 October 2016, the Galliera Museum will try and answer the age old question, "who wears who?"

The exhibition includes pieces like the corset of Marie-Antoinette, Elsa Schiapparelli's coat or the blouse of a WW1 nurse, chosen from the heritage collections of the City of Paris' Fashion Museum.
