Marseille was where the close friendship began between Azzedine Alaïa, Olivier Saillard the curator of the Fashion Museum, and Maryline Bellieud-Vigouroux, the museum's founder.
To pay homage to this couturier whose disappearance has left us orphaned, Olivier Saillard has put together an exhibition if 41 of his chefs-d’oeuvre made between 1980 and 2017. These exceptional pieces will be shown in his workshop, rue de la verrerie, from 10 June 2018.
A collector, a protector of the Arts, and a generous man, in 1988 Azzedine donated the best pieces in his collections to the Marseilles Fashion Museum. Among them was this sculptural dress worn by Grace Jones in the '80s.
From now on this inestimable cultural heritage will be part of the Azzedine Alaïa Foundation. An absolute master, and a signature, which has found its pantheon.
