A forerunner of contemporary art, the Marseilles MAC, museum of contemporary art, has organised the first monographic exhibition of the work of the Korean artist Cody Choi, who has recently been nominated to represent Korea, alongside Lee Wan, at the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017. The exhibition entitled "Cody Choi – Culture Cuts", puts into perspective the accelerated globalisation of the world on the western model, and acts as a paradoxical indicator showing as many copies or borrowed ideas as different new ones. Through his iconoclastic character, his sense of derision and the relationship he has with American and European creativity, the work of Cody Choi has made a big contribution to developing the interest shown by subsequent generations of Korean artists for Western art.
